Veda Hallowes is inspired by the natural world and a desire to create lasting works of beauty. Organic forms are translated through the lost wax process into vibrant bronze sculptures. Her idea is to engage the imagination, and delight in the impossible and fantastical.
Her fruits, which constitute her main body of work exude fertility and sensuality as well as humour, through the gentle curves of their forms, and the unique and elaborate patinas that she has developed over the years.
Before turning exclusively to sculpture, Veda Hallowes was a ceramicist and ceramics teacher for 25 years while her family were growing up. She has exhibited for many years both internationally and in the United Kingdom. She has enjoyed spectacular success at the Royal Academy where one of her editions was completely sold out.
“My art is about the positive-life enhancement and enrichment being the bedrock of my work. My fruits are a metaphor for the female figure with a sensual, subtle, twist and humour. I expect viewers to take from it whatever they like, either to smile and move on, or to relate to the profound "other meanings", which are explicit or implicit in the work”.
