We
are always delighted to show the work of Jeffrey Pratt as his principle gallery outlet. He
has become one of the most sought after and successful British contemporary painters with
his rich use of colour, wonderful plays of light, sheer exuberance and vitality. His
popularity has increased year by year with his work being collected widely in the United
Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Singapore and much of Europe.
Jeffrey enjoys lengthy trips to Italy, Turkey,
India, Africa, Ecuador, Cuba, and of course his greatest source of inspiration, France. As
an "en plein air" painter he captures the fleeting moments, the spirit of the
subject and the ever changing of days in the countryside. His love for art is such that
days off are rare and relaxation is a day painting in a field of lavender or sunflowers in
Provence. |

"My
passion for painting most often runs in competition with a love of Koi
carp, landscape gardening and sculpture. So extreme as to build a three
arch stone bridge across a lake I’d created, beautiful, thrilling, going
nowhere, simply sitting in the Oxfordshire countryside for hundreds of
years to come, a celebration of being alive and able to do.
Obviously I long to sit quietly and tranquilly meditating, but the desire
to paint and build drives hard. So many subjects to paint in
India
,
Africa
and
Provence
; women washing and workingoutside,
fabulous colour, hot hot landscapes and deserts.
Energy is finite;
economics and time dominate all our lives. The popular image of a painter
under tree in dappled light is a myth. Mistrals, thunderstorms, traffic
jams, 1001 disruptions contribute to the rarity of a truly satisfactory
days painting outside - en
plein air. So why do it?
Because the moment, the now, the imminent changes of light or mood, fire
up huge energy and daring. Be brave, be bold, be direct and just maybe
another image, a magical moment becomes frozen in time for as long
as………ever…….."
